This week in GO! Magazine’s music section

Friday, March 8th, 2013

Here’s what’s happening, musically, in Central Oregon over the next seven days.

– The famous South African singing group Ladysmith Black Mambazo returns to Bend’s Tower Theatre on Sunday night. My colleague David Jasper spoke to Albert Mazibuko about his four decades as a member of the group.

– In my Feedback column, I get out and about for the first time after a couple months of paternity leave and hit the lovable M&J Tavern for local bands Blackflowers Blacksun and Shade 13 before running out of steam and missing Harley Bourbon. NOTE: Blackflowers Blacksun will celebrate the release of two new albums with a show tonight at The Horned Hand. 9 p.m. $5. Silvero opens.

– Over in Sisters, promising new venue The Belfry will kick off its fundraising campaign Saturday night with a show by The JZ Band. Owner Angeline Rhett hopes to raise $34,500 via Kickstarter to make improvements to the 100-year-old building.

Elsewhere in this week’s music section: Todd Clouser’s A Love Electric jazz-rocks The Horned Hand, DJ/producer Eliot Lipp returns to town after police made him turn down the volume in December, Left Coast Country and Kory Quinn team up for a night of roots music and Eight Dollar Mountain gets bluegrassy at Silver Moon, plus Cody Beebe & The Crooks, the fifth annual Jim Jam and more.

This week in GO! Magazine’s music section

Friday, August 31st, 2012

Every once in a while I look at the music section in GO! and am both proud and amazed at the amount of stuff we get to. We don’t get to it all, but we get to a lot.

This is one of those weeks:

-After years of opening for bigger names and selling out the Tower Theatre, Brandi Carlile is back in Bend Saturday to headline the Les Schwab Amphitheater. Opening act Blitzen Trapper is awesome, too. We talked to both of them.

-In Feedback, I went on a bit of a rant about online vigilantism, spurred by some of the stuff that happened on Facebook earlier this week after Bend Roots Revival organizers canceled their festival.

-One-man band Tony Smiley celebrates the release of his new album “Ticket to the Trip” with a show Thursday at McMenamins Old St. Francis School.

Elsewhere in this week’s music section: Lauren Mann and the Fairly Odd Folk, DJ Wicked’s all-vinyl weekend, Estocar and The The The Thunder at Silver Moon, nelo at Black Butte Ranch, Back From The Dead at Maragas Winery, Moon Mountain Ramblers at Elk Lake Resort, Dixieland Party Band and Friends in La Pine, The JZ Band, a very busy weekend at The Horned Hand and more!

The weekend in show flyers

Thursday, January 7th, 2010

I haven’t added anything to our archive of flyers and posters lately, but I can’t resist these two.

First up, Friday night at Players, a couple of local metal bands:

TOCmullet

Second, The JZ Band is playing at Silver Moon Saturday:

JZBandSM

I’d pay one hundred American dollars to watch these two engage in a dance-off.
