This week in GO! Magazine’s music section

Friday, December 21st, 2012

Here’s what’s in today’s music section in GO! Magazine:

– My colleague David Jasper’s story on the newish Central Oregon band Hobbs, which plays at Silver Moon Brewing tonight.

My roundup of some of tonight’s big “end of the world” concerts, including Moon Mountain Ramblers, most of Person People, two good local bands at The Horned Hand and a Redmond option. (NOTE: Short stories on the Saturday’s Holiday Brewgrass Jamboree at Silver Moon and Patrick Lamb’s Jazz at the Oxford shows this weekend are at this link, too. They shouldn’t be, but they are.)

My review of Snoop Dogg’s show at Bend’s Midtown Ballroom Tuesday night.

Subliminal goes acoustic, shows to get you out of the house on Christmas night, and much more.

[Photos / video] Snoop Dogg in Bend

Wednesday, December 19th, 2012

In case you somehow missed it, hip-hop icon Snoop Dogg braved the cold weather and snowy roads to play the Midtown Ballroom in Bend Saturday night.

I’ll have a full review of the show in Friday’s GO! Magazine — short version: it was a solid, workmanlike showcase for his fleet of hit songs — but for now, scroll down and check out some terrific shots of the evening taken by The Bulletin’s Andy Tullis, plus a few videos of songs that I filmed.

Snoop Dogg is coming to Bend Dec. 18

Tuesday, November 13th, 2012

This just in:

Hip-hop giant Snoop Doggnot Snoop Lion, I guess — is playing the Midtown Ballroom in Bend on Dec. 18.

Tickets go on sale Friday. They’re $42.50 (plus fees) at Ticketweb, Jmax Productions, Bendticket and Ranch Records (541-389-6116) in Bend, or by calling 866-468-3399.

This is sweet. Say what you will about some of Snoop’s artistic choices over the past, oh, 15 years, but the man is a legend, and if you saw his performance at Coachella earlier this year — the one that was overshadowed by the 2Pac hologram — you know he can still bring it live, no joke. If you didn’t see it, watch it here and here.

Coachella 2012 recap

Monday, April 16th, 2012

Oh, I didn’t go to the big ol’ music festival down in the SoCal desert this weekend.

But I streamed several performances and figure that means I’m qualified to provide a recap.

So out of the 2,655,983,216 (give or take) bands that played Coachella over the past three days, here are the highlights:

This was mind-boggling. Eerie. Insane. Surreal. Impressive. It was good and weird and a little scary all wrapped into one.

Seriously, though, how great does that hologram look? It looks pretty great.

I fear festival headliners in the future will just be, like, Nirvana, The Beatles, Beethoven, etc., etc.

A great band playing most of a great album really well. Lovely!
