Kasey was really solid, but man, he did not play very long. Or at least it seemed like he didn't. Seemed like 5 or 6 songs (maybe I'm short one), probably 4-5 minutes each, including a cover of Dylan's "Leopard Skin Pillbox Hat" or whatever it's called.

But for the time they were up there, they sounded great. Just very straightforward, muscular rock 'n' roll. A far cry from that slot opening for Earle when it was just Kasey and his acoustic guitar. (I didn't notice if they played Some Depression or not.)

I probably like him acoustic a little bit more, but the Honkies are an impressive band, too.

And yeah, I think it's a good sign that he's been here twice now. Maybe we will get a headlining show at a smaller place next time they tour extensively. Fingers crossed...

Cool review. I'm one of those people who was fiercely in to The Counting Crows for a brief period of time, realized over night that I'd had my fill, pawned the cds and never looked back.

How was Kasey Anderson & The Honkies? Did ya notice if they played No Depression? I actually tried to convince myself that I was willing to shell out the ticket price for them, but opening band length set out of four bands at a venue with an early curfew, just couldn't. I do have a tiny bit of nostalgia for the days when I was a Counting Crows kinda guy, but I hate nostalgia. But hey, Anderson + Honkies know we're here. That's apparently twice Anderson's been here, so he knows we're here. (I read your Steve Earle review, when it happened but that was before I knew of Kasey Anderson, so the name didn't stick.) If that means a show at Domino or Horned Hand, I'd be all the way down.
