… is The Men’s “Open Your Heart,” due out March 6 on Sacred Bones Records.
I must admit, I was not hip to this New York City band’s critically adored 2011 album “Leave Home,” but the first couple of cuts from “Open Your Heart” floated past my face in recent weeks, and thankfully I clicked the “Play” button on both.
They are awesome. Whereas their previous stuff (stream “Leave Home” here) was fuzzy, all-over-the-place noise/punk/chaos, these two tunes have a tighter focus and more resilient melodies, like Sonic Youth meets the Replacements or something. They’re more brawny than brusque, and that’s a good thing.
Stream ‘em below, and then hop on board, because a slightly more accessible version of The Men will blow up beyond the critics’ self-envisioned oligarchy.
