I know what you’re thinking: Your band is awesome, ready to tour the world and play your songs for people in towns not called “Bend,” “Redmond” and “Sisters.” The only thing holding you back from total world domination is your lack of wheels. Or, at least, wheels that’ll hold you and your handful of hygienically challenged band mates, plus all your gear and fast-food bags.

Never fear! “Last Band Standing” is here! Local radio station Clear 101.7 FM is staging a battle of the bands at Boondocks Bar and Grill in Bend, and the first-place prize is an eye-catcher: $30,000 worth of stuff, including a 15-passenger van, a record contract and a guitar. There are prizes for second, third and fourth place, too, but they aren’t a van.

The contest gets going on April 22, and deadline for entry is April 11, which is soon, slacker. Details and the entry form are here. (Here’s info on MySpace and Facebook, for those of you so inclined.)

Winners will be determined by a vote of the Boondocks audience each night and will go on to unparalleled fame and fortune, or at least to learn a few things about band-van maintenance.

Are kids allowed to watch Last Band Standing? My son is a budding musician.

Thanks Ben. What a pity. Kind of short sighted, I think! Excludes all the young up an coming youth. Oh well.
