Austin, Texas singer-songwriter Bob Schneider is playing at The Annex in Bend tonight, and he has a brand new holiday album called “Christmastime” available for download through his Web site.

The album was recorded over a recent weekend in Schneider’s hometown, and it’s not your usual sort of holly, jolly holiday collection. Says Schneider:

I’ve always found the holidays to be a melancholy time of the year for me. Lots of times with my parents in Germany and my sister in South America, I’d be alone, and I wanted to make a Christmas record that reflected this sort of mood. I also wanted to make a record that was very intimate and not bombastic or merry in any way, in the same way that “A Charlie Brown Christmas” is, which is one of my favorite records of any kind.

You can watch Schneider working on the album by clicking here. The tracklist includes traditional favorites like “Winter Wonderland” and “White Christmas,” plus a cover of The Pogues’ modern classic “Fairytale of New York,” which you can download by clicking here.

Finally, you can experience Schneider live tonight, when he’ll play at The Annex (51 N.W. Greenwood Ave., Bend) at 9 p.m. Doors open at 8 p.m., and tickets cost $16 in advance (via Ranch Records and Tickestwest) or $18 at the door. Anastacia Beth Scott will open the show.
