And the first confirmed Les Schwab Amphitheater concert for 2010 is …

Thursday, December 3rd, 2009, 11:01 am by Ben Salmon

… country legend Merle Haggard!

Leading tour-date Web site Pollstar has The Hag down for a June 20, 2010 appearance at Les Schwab Amphitheater in Bend, and a spokesman for Monqui Presents, the company that books the venue, confirmed the date.

That’s a nice little ray of summer sunshine peeking through a cold December day, isn’t it?

When asked who else is on the 2010 Bend Summer Concerts schedule, the Monqui spokesman simply said the company is “working hard” on booking next season.

Fair enough. But that doesn’t mean we can’t wish and hope and speculate. Frequency readers: Who would you like to see play the amphitheater next summer? Leave your suggestions in the comments, and I’ll make sure they get to Monqui!

I would seriously want to see/hear Cosby Stills & Nash! They have been in the Pacific NW…why not here?

  2. Kim says:

You’re kidding; right? Merle Haggard? What a joke.

    • Ben Salmon says:

Merle Haggard a joke? I could see him not being your cup of tea, but the guy’s track record and influence is nearly unparalleled in country music.

It’s better than, I don’t know, Kenny Rogers or something.

  3. Steve says:

I’m hoping Black Rebel Motorcycle Club will return this year. They opened for STP last year and blew away the main act, even though STP’s set was awesome.

  4. Scott Halvorson says:

How about Tom Petty? Preferably with the Heartbreakers but I’d be nearly as happy without. I can’t imagine a Petty show here not going over big time.

  5. Ben Salmon says:

Both Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and Tom Petty would be cool. BRMC can’t play the Schwab alone, though. Not a big enough draw.

Petty could, though, and that’d be sweet. I think he’d do well here, too, Scott.

  6. Mike says:

311, Matisyahu, Scott Law, Ziggy Marley, Snoop Dogg, Built to Spill, Vinyl, CSN, Santana, Pearl Jam, Yonder Mountain String Band, String Cheese Incident….

  7. Diane says:

    The Eagles

  8. Caroline says:

Foo Fighters, CSN, Petty, Poison, Def Leppard, Pearl Jam and Ozzy :)

  9. Sho Sho says:

    Pavement would be dreamy.

  10. Nels says:

Foo Fighters would be amazing but I just don’t think we’re big enough for an act like that. I think Mike is on the right track though with some big names but not superstars…

Personally, I’d love to see some bigger names from the hip-hop world. I know they would be taking a risk with something like that though. Jurassic 5 would be like winning the lottery for me.

  11. cj says:

jason Marz, Tom Petty, Sugarland again and tons and tons of more big names!!!

  12. JDP says:

O.A.R. would put on a great show for the Amphitheater

  13. GMO says:

    Heart……(for Pattie)!

  14. Rusty says:

Widespread Panic. Great sourthern rock band with a strong appeal. Been getting a lot of play across a broad audience and tend to draw a solid crowd. Great fit for Bend.

  15. homefry says:

Without a doubt Government Mule–their fans travel well, they play 2-3 hour shows, tend to bring onto stage additional musicians (I’ve seen Ben Harper, Grace Potter, Jackie Greene jam with them) always mix in other bands songs…at the Warfield this past September – they played songs by Pink Floyd, Neil Young, Greateful Dead, Led Zep within their set…

  16. ed says:

maybe chery crow … on time?????

  17. Empty Space Orchestra says:

    …Tool.

  18. Mike says:

    My Morning Jacket por favor

  19. SteveO says:

We want to see cross canadian ragweed, they are in Idaho in August maybe they could be coaxed over this way. As always Skynyrd is certainly welcome. A band called rehab would pack the house.

  20. SteveO says:

The fellow that mentioned Gov Mule Knows his shiz nit they would be on my to do list for sure.
