Instant Classic: Black Star x The Roots x Dirty Projectors make “History” on Jimmy Fallon

This is unquestionably one of the very best hip-hop moments of the year; too bad it was buried at the very end of a show that airs at 12:30 a.m. and gets mixed reviews, to put it generously.

That means most people didn’t see it, so I’ve pasted it below. But before you watch, consider what we have here: Two of the finest MCs in recent history (Mos Def and Talib Kweli) backed by the greatest hip-hop band of all time (The Roots) recreating a dope track created by a universally revered producer (J Dilla, R.I.P.), with a little help from 33 percent of one of the most acclaimed indie bands of the year (the Dirty Projectors).

Wow.
