A Ween photo bonanza!

Saturday, August 29th, 2009, 1:10 pm by Ben Salmon

Alt-rock superweirdoheros Ween lit up the Les Schwab Amphitheater in Bend Friday night, and between the band, the (considerate) fans and the magnificent sky, there was a bounty of interesting things to photograph. Fortunately, Bulletin photographer Rob Kerr was there snapping away, and he came back with a whole bunch of terrific shots. Some are of Ween, some are not, but overall, I think they’ll give you a pretty good feel for the night. Be sure to click through to see tons more pictures after the jump.

Oh, and I’ll have a review of the show in next Friday’s GO! Magazine. The short version: I was bored for a while, and then it got pretty good.

Oh yeah, I was actually a little concerned with the economy that they might not get the turnout they did last time (which was EPIC btw) but there had to be at least another 1,000 people than that show, and they were feeling it… awesome moments where pretty much the whole crowd was singing along.

After seeing/reading about so many “big name” shows that throw our little town maybe an hour, hour and a half tops before just walking off, it really rules how they have cranked out 30 tracks a show and really try and get the crowd involved, even for such a small venue.

It’s the reason why they outsell so many “bigger” bands here, and the reason I’ll always be there. Well, it helps that they’re also the best band in the history of the universe… though that may just be a personal bias :D

Hey Ben: You kind of let the “cat out of the bag” in your music preview with the comments on “illicit substances”. I bet half of the teenagers in town got “grounded” from attending the show. The show was so good, I was “trippin” on the music alone.

On another note, how nice it was to be able to enjoy a beer near the stage rather than the former “alcohol zone” at the back of the venue. Kudos to all those fighting the fight against the OLCC.

Too bad this was the only real rock show at the LSA all summer. Get the van gassed up and let’s head off to Portland for some more music.
