Pearl Jam everywhere, all of a sudden

My love-hate relationship with grunge’s eternal bridesmaid continues. Here’s Pearl Jam performing last night on Conan O’Brien’s “Tonight Show” debut:

Between this and yesterday’s news of the band’s partnership with Target (and then more news of the band’s lawyers squashing online discussion of a new song), it seems the fellas are looking to make some dough, eh? Not that there’s anything wrong with that — there most certainly is not. But this is not the defiantly anti-commercial, press-shy Pearl Jam we’ve come to know over the years.

Pretty decent tune, though.

please get all your facts straight before making it sound like the boys are going back on their ideals and convictions.
the shoot at the showbox was for an upcoming DVD celebrating their 20th anniversary.
they let target in for some publicity video for the release of the album at their stores….and yes they are a corporation, but what other band have you seen sucessfully negotiate a deal like this?
the deal states that yes, while Target will be the one BIG store to sell the album, unlike other bands and their contracts, PJ made sure that traditional record stores would not be blocked out. and they secured that their long standing “live” recordings and “boots” will still be happening.

the “press-shy” and “anti-commercial” PJ you have been used to was a direct result of being under the thumb of a much larger corp. than Traget for the last decade and 1/2….you know them as SONY

Kevin- I’m like a lot of other people and have the same reaction as the headline Ben wrote….”Pearl Jam everywhere, all of a sudden”.
I like Pearl Jam, although I don’t follow them. All of a sudden I’m hearing a lot of different things going on with them. They’re obviously making a push again.

I’m coming in a little late on this one but have to comment – don’t you think Eddie is starting to look vaguely like Sammy Hagar? Maybe it’s the fuzzy hair or my hidden love for Cabo Wabo tequila (joke – not…okay joke). Whatever it is, Eddie is looking older which means that I also must be looking older. Ugh.

This post got me thinking how excited I am for all those elderly women behind the (Target) counter in (not so) small towns who will finally get a theme song…I seem to recognize your red t-shirt….
